Black Knight: Sword of Rage – Premium (Stern, 2019)
A Steve Ritchie design with a modernized take on the classic brutality, the Premium is the version where the game’s personality really comes alive.
⚔️ Core Identity
The Premium is built around three pillars:
- Steve Ritchie speed + flow, but with controlled brutality
- Interactive mechs, especially the Black Knight himself
- A metal-inspired audiovisual package featuring Scott Ian (Anthrax) on guitar
Stern emphasizes the “explore, discover, and unlock the secrets of the Black Knight universe” theme across all models, but the Premium is where the world-building feels complete.
Gameplay Highlights (Premium-Specific)
1. Upper Playfield Combat
The upper playfield is the star of the Premium:
- One flipper
- Loop shot
- Targets that feed into the Knight battle
- A controlled, tactical feel that contrasts with the fast lower playfield
This is the “Sword of Rage” experience that the Pro simply doesn’t deliver.
2. Black Knight Mech
The Premium’s Knight is a full interactive toy:
- Motorized flail you physically battle
- Shield bash target that reacts dynamically
- Integrated lighting + sound that syncs with attacks
This mech is the emotional center of the game—visually and mechanically.
. Enhanced Lightshow + Atmosphere
The Premium’s RGB lighting and layered animations make the battles feel more theatrical. The game leans heavily into:
- Medieval fantasy
- Heavy metal energy
- Boss-fight structure
