The aim is to visit all the separate rooms of the house, each of which gives an award of some kind. Visit them all, and you get to “Tour The Mansion”, the mode where you get to play them all again in sequence culminating in multiball.
3 under-playfield electromagnets activate at specific times during gameplay and challenge
even the most experienced player.
The Addams Family Pinball Machine is the best selling pinball machine since the 1930s, having sold 20,270 units. Manufactured by Midway (under the Bally name), it is a solid state electronic game. The Addams Family Pinball Machine was based on the 1991 movie The Addams Family. It features custom speech (mostly drawn from the movie) by the movie’s stars, Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston.
The game card describes the game objective as being to “Explore the strange world of the Addams Family.” With that in mind there is no single player goal, though there are two central objectives.
Objectives:
- The Mansion: The Addams Family mansion is located in the center of the playfield. And it has 12 “windows.” Each window corresponds to a different room that the player can enter and receive an award for.
- Vault Multiball: In the top-right section of the playfield is a blue bookcase, representing the bookcase that Gomez shows Uncle Fester in the movie.
- Hits to it award letters in the word “Greed”.
- Once the word is completed, the bookcase turns, revealing a shot to the vault behind the bookcase. (possible but rare for a ball to go into the vault when the bookcase is in the blocking position).
- A shot to the vault locks the ball for future multiball use, or it starts the multiball when two balls have been previously locked.
- The bookcase also opens access to the vault at certain other times during the mini games, with varying scores and effects.
Game Features:
- Flippers 4 (3 regular-sized, 1 “Thing Flips” game-controlled mini-flipper)
- Pop bumpers (5)
- Ramps (2)
- Kick-out hole (1)
- Dual left inlanes
Toys:
- ‘Thing’ hand – ball capture device.
- ‘Electric chair’
Notes:
- The Addams Family Pinball Machine has a flipper that not only is controlled by the player’s flipper button but also is caused by the game programming to flip at certain points in game play.
