Pac-Man is a 1980 action maze chase video game developed and released by Namco for arcades. In North America, the game was released by Midway Manufacturing as part of its licensing agreement with Namco America. Pac-Man was originally call Puck Man in Japan.
A yellow, pie-shaped character named Pac-Man runs along inside a maze, eating dots as it avoids four ghosts. Each ghost has its own unique personality and gobbling one of the four super dots makes Pac-Man invincible to the ghosts for a given period of time. Each maze has its own unique bonus fruit or object with bonus points increasing as the game progresses.

Objective:
- To eat all of the dots placed in the maze while avoiding four colored ghosts – Blinky (red), Pinky (pink), Inky (cyan/blue), and Clyde (orange) – that pursue Pac-Man.
Gameplay:
- The player controls Pac-Man, who must eat all the dots inside an enclosed maze while avoiding four colored ghosts.
- Eating large flashing dots called “Power Pellets” causes the ghosts to turn blue, allowing Pac-Man to eat them for bonus points.
- When Pac-Man eats all of the dots, the player advances to the next level.
- Levels are indicated by fruit icons at the bottom of the screen.
- Pac-Man loses a life when caught by a ghost.
- The game ends when all lives are lost.
- Each of the ghosts has their own unique personality/artificial intelligence: 1) Blinky (red) – aka Shadow, always behind Pac-Man and it’s hard to shake him/gives direct chase to Pac-Man; 2) Pinky (pink) aka Speedy, is fast. 3) Inky (blue) aka Bashful because he is terribly shy and will actually run away from you; and 4) Clyde (orange) aka Pokey because he is slow- switches between chasing Pac-Man and fleeing from him.
- When Pac-Man eats the large flashing “energizers” or “power pellets” placed at the four corners of the maze, the ghosts will to turn blue with a dizzied expression and will reverse direction. Pac-Man can then eat the ghosts.
